St Joseph’s Girls are ahead of the Pack

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Broadstairs, girls gave a masterclass in running at the recent Upton School Cross Country event, taking first place in the years 4, 5 and 6 categories. The trio behind the hat trick were Natalia (year 4), Lola (year 5) and Milly (year 6). Their determination and sheer hard work paid off as they fought off competition from the other nine schools at the event, with Milly Roe even overtaking the official course pace setter to sprint home to victory.

With ten schools and over 400 children competing in muggy running conditions, the course was challenging in terms of strategy given the complex layout and number of chicanes. However, all 19 entrants from St Joseph’s successfully navigated their way through the course and all our entrants had the satisfaction of knowing that they had raised money through their participation to help Upton’s swimming pool fund.

Special thanks must also go to Mr Holmes and Mr Jones whose dispensing of running tips and jelly babies played no small part in the success of the event.
