'Sports for schools' at St Edward's Primary, Sheerness

On Tuesday 24th January, St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School held a sponsored fitness circuit for the whole school. Athlete, Darran Challis, ran the event along with a Sportivator from the 'Sports for schools' charity, a social enterprise that organizes athlete visits in primary schools. The visits aim to inspire the next generation of top athletes and help schools raise money for equipment and resources that further improve the children's levels of physical fitness.

Every child completed the fitness circuit with a mixture of exercises that the school had been practicing before the event. Darran then gave an inspirational assembly about his life and how he has continued to overcome personal difficulties through sport. His message to pupils was to 'never give up and always give 100%'. Darran's words have really resonated with the school community, and the children aspire to be more like Darran in their own perseverance and helping others.

In total, St Edward's has raised over £2400, from the generosity of their families. A voucher worth £1300 has been given to the school to invest in PE within the curriculum and wish lists have also been created by the children to bring more opportunities to them as a direct result of this event. As a result of the fundraising, children have also received prizes from ‘Sports for Schools’ as a sign of their appreciation and the children’s achievements.

Well done and a huge ‘thank you’ to the children, their families, and all of the staff of St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School!
