St Simon Stock student, Beatriz, wins Best Drawing at The John Downton Awards
There was much excitement, on Tuesday evening, at the County Hall for the annual John Downton Awards Evening.
St Simon Stock School in Maidstone had 11 students shortlisted, with their work on show. For most, this was the first time they had had their work displayed in a public art gallery, so there were many proud moments as they viewed the work with their families and friends.
The exhibition celebrates the creativity of Kent’s best young artists (11-18), inviting Kent schools and colleges to participate and exhibit the best examples of their painting, drawing, mixed media and photography.
There were media specific prizes in each of the two age groups, judged by an experienced panel, including the Head of Exhibition’s at the Turner Contemporary Gallery, Sarah Martin.
We are delighted to share the news that St Simon Stock won the award for ‘Best Drawing’. Huge congratulations to Beatriz!
As you can see from the images below, the standard was incredibly high. Being shortlisted and part of the exhibition is a significant achievement and these students should be very proud of what they’ve accomplished.
The exhibition will remain open to the general public at the County Gallery, County Hall, Maidstone, until January 2025 between 10am & 4pm, and is well worth a visit!
