  • BBC landmark education project visits St Simon Stock Catholic School, Maidstone

    Thu 09 Mar 2023

St Simon Stock Catholic School in Maidstone was incredibly fortunate to be included on the BBC Share Your Story tour which was delivered as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations to 742 schools in the UK.

The interactive assembly event, produced by BBC Children’s & Education, was designed to inspire young people across the country to achieve their goals and help realise their ambitions and, on Tuesday 7 February, St Simon Stock welcomed the tour into school to talk to students in Years 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13.

A wonderful opportunity to engage with people who work in a variety of creative careers; the presentation let students hear first-hand from industry experts about possible routes of entry into their professional roles.

Three specialists shared their stories during the event, including a Stage Manager, who discussed her time on Broadway and in the West End; a voiceover artist and a Principal Technical Officer for the BBC who works for BBC South East.

Also, hosting the event, was Alex Mansuroglu - a Kiss FM DJ and Gravesend native whose close links to Maidstone meant he was also able to connect with students about opportunities available in their local area.
