  • St Mary's Primary, Deal meet the world of Harry Potter!

    Thu 23 May 2019
Year 5 pupils at St Mary's Primary, Deal have been learning about Harry Potter as their topic for this term; they had a big surprise when the flying Ford Anglia from the second book - The Chamber of Secrets - arrived in their playground!      All the pupils and the teachers were tremendously excited and got to sit in car where the Weasley family actors, Rupert Grint, Julie Walters and Mark Williams have sat. We even saw their signatures on the sun visors.     The car belongs to the Godfather of one of year 5 pupils; he takes it to conventions and events all over the world. The car has a cage containing Hedwig, a golden snitch smashing through the window, plays magical music and at the swish of a wand you can turn on the headlights!  3 / 3 St Joseph's Primary, Northfleet are working for the world! Thu 20 Jun 2019 Letters from pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary, Northfleet, advocating preservation of theSome of the pupils at St Gregory's Primary, Margate have won the Trinity College Arts Award for their work with The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Marlowe Theatre (pictured below). • St Joseph's Primary, Broadstairs STEAMETTES are out of this world!

    Mon 20 May 2019

Five of the St Joseph’s Broadstairs STEAMETTES (they love Science , Technology, Engineering, Art & Maths) have been successful in getting their greetings message sent to the astronauts on board the International Space Station for Mission Zero by the European Space Agency.

The STEAMettes wrote their message particularly for the attention of the two female astronauts on board, Christina Koch and Anne McClain.

The five girls also gave a presentation to a local community group, the Monkton Stargazers, explaining how they wrote the coding for the message in Python for the raspberry Pi computer which is on board the Space Station. They also detailed how they had devised a way to display the on-board space station temperature.

Not inclined to rest on their laurels, the girls have also been busy using their digital animation skills to take part in Lumen’s astronomy exhibition called Cosmic Sublime at the Pie Factory Gallery in Margate. The girls coded animations to show a rocket in space, the planets in the solar system, the life and death of our sun, some constellations and a black hole swallowing a galaxy.

The other artists were most impressed with the work of the STEAMettes who have been asked to submit their work to Lumen’s next exhibition in London.

  • Boxing is a "hit" at St Joseph's,Broadstairs

    Fri 17 May 2019

Living up to Muhammad Ali’s exhortation to "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee", St Joseph’s Primary, Broadstairs pupils have been showcasing a variety of skills at the new after-school Boxing Club run by Olympia Boxing.

16 pupils from Years 3-6 have been learning how to channel confidence, resilience and self-belief with a drive to improve fitness levels under the watchful eye of Warren, the coach.

All of the techniques taught are designed to be non-contact, with the key message of the club being about sharpening the wits, believing in yourself and promoting good emotional control and self-awareness. Whilst mentally being taught to “walk tall”, the children are put through intensive circuit training, skipping and pad work so that there are a lot of sweaty heads at the end of the session.

Learning these skills and honing physical fitness with a highly trained adult and in a safe space has been a huge “hit” at the academy.
